3 tips to care for jobseekers while managing high applicant numbers

​The job market has just massively changed. And you’re now likely to be flooded with huge applicant numbers for your jobs, and communicating with ALL of the jobseekers can be really time consuming!

For a jobseeker, hearing back about their application is so important. 
It can even damage your brand if your jobseekers never heard from you. Being up front, even if it’s ‘sorry, you haven’t got the job,’ means the jobseeker isn’t falsely waiting for a call for the interview that’s never coming. 

But, how do you keep up with so many applications? Not only to find the perfect person for your job, but also update all the other jobseekers who are desperately searching for work. 

Here’s 3 tips to help you stay up to date with your applications, and ensure your jobseekers feel cared for in a challenging job market:
  • Acknowledge receipt of their application – Jobseekers should know that their application has been received. Surprisingly, it’s all too common that a jobseeker will submit an application into what feels like thin air… and not hear a thing. If your platform sends emails great, otherwise if you receive them via email set-up an automatic reply to each of them. 
  • Use technology to help you – Emailing every individual jobseeker one at a time isn’t usually feasible when time is so precious. If you’re receiving your applicants in your email, you could set-up automatic replies and a mail merge to communicate with them all. Or choose an ATS or platform that will do the hard work for you. 
  • Tell your jobseeker’s if they didn’t get the job! – It’s a stressful time, and incredibly more so for people who are out of work. If you have reviewed their application and know they’re not a match to your job, update them now. Don’t wait ‘til later. It’ll let the jobseeker know and they can move on in their job hunt instead of waiting to hear from you.
